Inspiration

What inspired Nourish Net is the widespread issue of food waste and hunger. Restaurants and businesses often discard perfectly good food at the end of the day, while many communities are still facing food insecurity.

What it does

Nourish Net connects restaurants and businesses with food banks, soup kitchens, and charities to donate excess food. The platform streamlines the donation process, making it easy for businesses to share surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. By efficiently distributing this food to those in need, Nourish Net helps reduce food waste, fight hunger, and support communities in need.

How we built it

Nourish Net was built using Android Studio, Firebase, and GitHub. Android Studio for developing the app’s interface and core features. Firebase as the backend and database to handle real-time data syncing and user authentication. GitHub for version control and team collaboration during development.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing user auth with firebase was a challenge because this technology was new to us but we overcame this obstacle eventually.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the fact that we made a tangible impact in addressing food insecurity.

What we learned

We gained a deeper understanding of how technology can be leveraged to address societal problems like food waste and hunger, reinforcing our commitment to making a positive impact.

What's next for Nourish Net

We want to continue to add features and functionality as our userbase increases.
