Our Story: Building NourID+
🌍 What Inspired Us
During a field visit to Morocco’s Drâa-Tafilalet region, we met Fatima, a date farmer struggling to irrigate her crops due to unreliable electricity. She couldn’t prove land ownership to qualify for solar subsidies, trapping her family in poverty. This mirrored a broader crisis: **30% of rural land is unregistered (World Bank, 2022), and 1 in 5 households lack electricity. We realized Morocco’s **Digital ID (CNIE) could be the key to solving both problems—if tied to land rights and energy access.
📚 What We Learned
- Fragmented Systems: Land registries and solar programs operate in silos, enabling fraud and exclusion.
- Tech Gaps: Rural Moroccans rely on USSD/SMS, not apps, due to low internet (12% penetration in villages).
- Policy Alignment: Morocco’s **Solar Plan 2030 and Digital Strategy 2025 provided frameworks but lacked grassroots integration.
- Cultural Nuances: Women often inherit land informally but lack legal recognition.
We partnered with Esaf Morocco (agricultural cooperatives) and studied India’s Digital Land Registry to adapt solutions locally.
