Inspiration

Many neighbourhoods lack essential services, while aspiring entrepreneurs struggle to find meaningful business ideas. We realized that community problems can become valuable business opportunities when the right people connect. This inspired us to create NOTYET — Turning Community Needs into Opportunities.

What It Does

NOTYET is a community-driven platform that connects unmet neighbourhood needs with potential business opportunities. Residents can report problems, community members can validate needs, and aspiring entrepreneurs can explore business ideas based on community interest. Our goal is to help entrepreneurs identify opportunities by listening to the people they want to serve.

How We Built It

We developed NOTYET as a web application using Python, Flask, SQLite, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We worked collaboratively as a team, combining backend development, database management, and frontend design to create a platform that makes community needs easier to discover and explore.

Challenges We Faced

One of our main challenges was bringing different parts of the application together and making the user experience clear and consistent. We also worked on organizing community needs and presenting them in a way that helps users understand their potential as business opportunities. Collaboration, testing, and debugging helped us improve the project.

What We Learned

Building NOTYET taught us the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, database management, and user-focused design. We also learned that technology can help bridge the gap between real community problems and entrepreneurial solutions.

What's Next

We hope to improve NOTYET with stronger community validation, opportunity collaboration, progress tracking, and notifications, helping residents and entrepreneurs work together to create meaningful local impact.

NOTYET — Because every unmet need could be the beginning of an opportunity to build a better community.
