Inspiration I wanted to build a dedicated, edge aware triage dashboard that treats perimeter security with the urgency of a professional monitoring station, leveraging a rapid, prototype first engineering approach to bridge Ring devices with an immediate visual and auditory response.

What it does RingGuard acts as a localized triage engine for your perimeter. When an outdoor motion event or security anomaly is flagged by a Ring camera, the system captures the webhook payload and immediately sounds a local alert. The incident response dashboard updates instantly, displaying a high contrast active threat warning and visual reference of the intruder to expedite threat mitigation.

How we built it Frontend: Built a high performance UI using React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS for real-time state visualization.

Integration Layer: Engineered an Express based Ring webhook processor combined with a public HTTPS tunnel to securely catch events.

Ring Platform: Configured a Private App within the Amazon Developer Console to manage camera motion scopes and API routing.

Testing: Implemented synthetic event triggers and keyboard bound state listeners to instantly validate UI reactivity without waiting for physical hardware triggers.

Challenges we ran into Cloud provisioning friction. Initially, I faced delays configuring complex AWS IAM roles and AppSync sandbox environments for real-time WebSocket subscriptions. I bypassed this by engineering a direct local integration tunnel that successfully decoupled the frontend state validation from the cloud deployment lifecycle, allowing us to finish the MVP on time.

Accomplishments that we are proud of I achieved zero latency UI reactivity. By stripping back the complex cloud layers during the hackathon, I successfully demonstrated the core critical pathway: a simulated device trigger instantly resolving into a full screen threat alert on the localized dashboard.

What is next for RingGuard Connecting the local backend to a fully provisioned AWS Amplify Gen 2 data layer with DynamoDB real-time GraphQL subscriptions for sub-second alert sync across multiple household devices simultaneously.
