Inspiration

Notices are an important part of student life, but they are often written in formal or complicated language. Students may have to read long paragraphs just to find simple information such as what to do, when to do it, and where to go.

This inspired us to build Notice2Simple - a project that makes complicated notices easier to understand. my goal was to create a simple tool that helps users quickly understand the important information in a notice without changing its actual meaning.

What it does

Notice2Simple converts complicated notices into simple, easy-to-understand language. Users can provide a notice to the application, and Notice2Simple processes the content and presents the information in a clearer way.

The project is designed to help users:

Understand difficult notices more easily Quickly find important information Save time when reading long notices Avoid confusion caused by formal or complicated wording Focus on important instructions, dates, deadlines, and requirements

How I built it

I built Notice2Simple as a web application with a simple and user-friendly interface.

I used HTML and CSS to create the frontend and Python with Flask for the backend. I worked on the project structure, text processing, user interface, and deployment myself.

I also deployed the project online so it could be accessed through the internet instead of running only on my computer.

Challenges I ran into

One of the major challenges I faced during the development of the project was managing the project structure and ensuring that all components worked correctly together.

The major challenges I faced included:

Managing the project and folder structure correctly. Fixing static file and CSS path issues. Configuring the backend properly. Debugging errors during development. Connecting and managing the required components of the application. Ensuring that the application worked smoothly and consistently.

Another important challenge was simplifying notices while preserving their important information, original meaning, and context. I had to make complex notices easier to understand without removing essential details.

I solved these challenges through continuous testing, debugging, researching errors, and making improvements step by step. This process helped me improve my problem-solving skills and gain a better understanding of web application development.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that I turned an idea into a working project by myself.

One of my biggest accomplishments was successfully building and deploying Notice2Simple. Working on the project also gave me experience with real development problems that are not always covered in tutorials.

I am especially proud that the project has a practical purpose. I wanted to build something that could actually help students understand complicated notices more easily.

What we learned

Building Notice2Simple taught me that developing a project is much more than writing code.

I learned about:

Frontend and backend development Python and Flask Text processing Web application structure Debugging and troubleshooting Managing static files Deployment and hosting Testing a real web application Building an application around a real-world problem

Most importantly, I learned how to take an idea, solve problems independently, and turn it into a working application.

What's next for Notice2Simple

I want to continue improving Notice2Simple and make it more useful for students and other users.

My future plans include:

Supporting multiple languages Improving the accuracy of text simplification Automatically identifying important dates and deadlines Extracting key actions from notices Supporting more document formats Improving document upload and processing Making the interface even easier to use Adding more useful AI-powered features

My long-term goal is to make Notice2Simple a simple bridge between complicated official information and the people who need to understand it.
