Inspiration Our inspiration for this project came from an observation we made. In the city we live in, it is difficult for some people to earn community service, and they rarely have the chance to participate in events. This is why we created NoteSwap. With the use of AI, it will allow anybody, anywhere with an internet connection to be able to tutor or write notes and earn valid community service with AI validation that they can use to apply to colleges.

What it does

NoteSwap is an AI-based, user-friendly platform that enables students to share notes, tutor each other, and volunteer for events. It also provides students with access to a chatbot trained on the school's student handbook and an AI text detector to help teachers verify the authenticity of their students' work. NoteSwap utilizes AI to allow students to earn valid community service online and learn.

Proposal Abstract

This platform makes the acquisition and recording of community service hours fast and simple, giving students more to put on their college applications. NoteSwap allows students in remote locations to have a chance of earning community service online by using AI to validate and grade their services, so teachers don't have to. The sharing of notes allows students to stay ahead in their studies and not miss out on valuable information during absences. Notes can be typed, or a photo can be taken and uploaded to the platform. If they are typed, they will be analyzed by AI, and the notes will be given a percentage score according to a predefined rubric. This score will be multiplied by the time they spent writing the notes, and the product will be the amount of community service that gets added to their account. If a picture is taken, it will be converted into text via an OCR model, and the percentage score will be calculated that way.

The tutoring feature allows struggling students to seek help from their peers and allows tutors to be compensated in community service hours for helping those students, along with developing valuable skills and retaining information better. The tutoring can happen face-to-face or online, and the audio will be recorded, and a transcript will be created. That transcript will also be validated and graded by AI according to another rubric. Additionally, events can be posted by teachers, and students willing to volunteer can sign up for the event. The teacher can see the list of student volunteers, verify the students' presence on the day of, and add the community service hours directly from the page where the list is displayed. All of this will facilitate the acquisition of community service hours, something that is highly demanded and looked for by colleges, along with teaching students valuable skills through tutoring and encouraging the writing and organization of notes. They will also be given access to an AI chatbot which will be trained on data from the school’s student handbook, along with data from the notes posted and everything else on the website, which will allow for easy and effective access to information.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the platform we have developed and how it is already helping students in our city earn and track their community service.

What's next for NoteSwap

NoteSwap is still in its early stages, and we have a lot ahead of us. The goal for NoteSwap is to be implemented in schools all over the globe to give every student the opportunities they deserve.
