NoteNinja

My mom has partial vision and she has difficulties identifying bills. She always asked me for help whenever she needed it, but after I left for college, I always wonder how is she handling the issue everyday. The inspiration behind NoteNinja came from my desire to create a more inclusive and secure environment. We wanted to develop a solution that not only detects counterfeit currency but also empowers the visually impaired to independently manage their finances with confidence.

NoteNinja is a dual-purpose currency detector designed to identify fake bills and assist the blind in currency recognition. Using advanced technology, it provides real-time feedback through audio cues and tactile interfaces, ensuring accurate detection for all users.

We built NoteNinja using a combination of cutting-edge image recognition algorithms and accessibility-focused design principles. The app is based on swift for now. The device integrates a high-resolution camera for bill scanning, a powerful processor for quick analysis, and a user-friendly interface for seamless interaction. The data training model is based on TensorFlow, keras, and OpenCV.

One of the main challenges we encountered was fine-tuning the image recognition algorithms to accurately distinguish between genuine and counterfeit bills across various currencies. Additionally, designing an intuitive interface that caters to both visually impaired and sighted users posed a unique set of challenges. There weren't many great pictures of currencies to collecting data and creating good model was challenge. We are still not 100% accurate but will be soon.

We are proud to have created a versatile device that addresses two critical needs: counterfeit detection and accessibility for the visually impaired. Seeing NoteNinja in action, providing valuable assistance to users in real-time, will be a significant achievement for me.

Through the development of NoteNinja, we learned the importance of user-centered design and the impact of technology on accessibility. We also gained insights into the complexities of currency security and the nuances of different bill designs.

In the future, we plan to expand NoteNinja's compatibility with a wider range of currencies, making it a versatile tool for users worldwide. Additionally, we aim to enhance its portability and connectivity features, ensuring seamless integration into everyday financial transactions. Our goal is to continue innovating and improving NoteNinja to make currency security and accessibility even more accessible for all.
