Inspiration
Working as a music producer requires you to always have a "fresh set of ears". Generally when we work on the same track for a long period of time, our ears tend to get fatigued and one of two things happens. We start hating the music we have made, or, we get so used to the music we have made that we don't realise our mistakes and fail to see room for improvement.
What it does
This game is meant primarily for music producers. In the game, a new note shows up every second and the player must play that note on the piano within the time limit to score a point. The main goal of the app although, is to provide the listener with exciting new tracks while they play the game that act like palette cleansers for our ears. The aim of the app is to send the producer back to their work with a better perception of their music.
How we built it
The app was built solely in python using pyglet which is a library meant for making games.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was that my teammates were making the application in javascript and i was incharge of making the background track and animations. Both my teammates quit last night and i was left alone with no knowledge of javascript. I attempted learning it but since time was not sufficient i decided to start from scratch in python using a game building library.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am particularly proud of the background track and animations since it was my first time animating images and found it very interesting.
What we learned
I enjoyed learning animation and also learning about making games in python. I look forward to learning javascript soon to make more web games as I found it really fascinating.
What's next for NoteNinja
Going forward i want to add more tracks the user can select from, and a database that stores different users and their particular highscores in the game. The initial game was intended so that the star obstacle would move towards the goose and if it touches the goose, the opportunity to score a point is lost. Although i could not figure out the movement of the star in time and decided to just set a timer for scoring points. I do think adding levels would be a good idea, where we use more notes like shaprs and flats instead of just the white keys.
