Inspiration

Our inspiration for NoteIT came when we were brainstorming ideas and we realized that we all had similar experiences with taking notes in class. We had to take fast, bullet point notes to keep up with the lecturer, and when we went to study those notes they were not effective because of the form they were in. It would be more helpful to have them in flashcard or practice quiz form, but making those by hand simply took too much time.

What it does

NoteIT uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and AI-powered natural language processing to read text from a variety of input types and refactor those notes into more effective study tools/note formats, depending on what the user requests.

How we built it

Since we are in the Shooting Green Sky category where we are not producing a full prototype, we decided to focus our effort into designing clean User Interface mock-ups that give a realistic representation of what a NoteIT app would actually look like. We did this using Figma. Outside of the UI, we focused on refining what types of features NoteIT would have, and what our business model would look like.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were primarily surrounding our ideation process. We had sort of taken our first legitimate idea and ran with it, and we realized later in the process that our idea was actually too convoluted and was not addressing a real problem present in the market. So, we had to totally pivot and come up with a new idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of how we listened to feedback from our mentors and restructured our idea accordingly. We are also proud that we put a lot of time into considering potential legal problems and implications of our technology, and how we would potentially handle those issues as our companies scales.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the ideation process, and ended up realizing that it was far better to focus on providing our most valuable service extremely well, rather than producing a product that has a lot of really cool functions but actually is not very relevant to potential consumers.

What's next for NoteIT

The next steps from NoteIT would include further research to determine what kind of functions potential users would like to see from the app. This would be fairly easy to accomplish, so the next biggest step would actually be diving into the real development of the app. As we start fleshing out the more technical aspects of the app, we would be able to work out the operational kinks and hopefully end up with a functioning version of NoteIT!
