Inspiration
NotebookLM is useful for generating and organizing notes, but exported content can often include messy citations, references, and formatting noise. I built NotebookLM Remover to make the cleanup process faster and easier for students, researchers, writers, and AI users.
What it does
NotebookLM Remover is a browser-based tool that helps clean up exported NotebookLM notes. It can remove citation-style references, reduce formatting clutter, and turn messy exported text into cleaner content that is easier to copy, edit, and reuse.
Key features:
Clean messy NotebookLM exports Remove citations and reference markers Improve readability of exported notes Simple browser-based workflow No complex setup required How I built it
The project was built as a lightweight web tool using Astro, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The focus was to keep the interface simple and make the cleanup workflow fast: paste the exported text, process it, and copy the cleaned result.
Challenges
The main challenge was handling different export formats from NotebookLM. Exported notes may contain different citation styles, spacing issues, and repeated formatting patterns, so the cleanup logic needed to be practical without making the user configure too many options.
What I learned
I learned how important small workflow tools can be for AI users. Even a simple cleanup step can save a lot of time when people are working with long notes, research materials, or AI-generated summaries.
What's next
Future improvements may include more cleanup options, better formatting presets, support for more export styles, and additional tools for AI-generated notes.
