Students that are visually impaired have difficulty taking lecture notes and searching through them.
Our note-helper application leverages the IBM Watson speech-to-text platform to give students with visual impairments the ability to listen and search through audio recordings of their lecture notes.
How we built it
We studied the Artificial intelligence IBM Watson API and integrated it into a functional web platform. The application allows students to play audio recordings of their lectures, search for important keywords, rewind a portion of interest in the recording and play back as long as they want.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the Bluemix up and running for all team members
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a platform to help students at our school. Collaborating as a team to create a functional product in a few hours.
What we learned
IBM Watson API Working on the Bluemix platform Some JavaScript for those of us that didn't know it
What's next for Note Helper with IBM Watson
In collaboration with SOFEDUP at Brooklyn College, a club that represents students with disabilities, we will be further developing the website to allow students to save and organize their notes in folders by class, and search through multiple audio files to find all instances of a keyword. Also, we plan to develop a note-helper mobile app in the nearest future.
