Inspiration
There's already an amazing speech-to-text app called Otter that I recently discovered and really enjoyed. We want to make that better by bringing it to a lecture setting and encouraging participation of students by a gamified system that incentivizes users to submit questions and share their key takeaways to the class in an easy and fun manner.
What it does
Features include:
- Filler word analysis
- Summarizer (using BERT)
- Topic modeller
- Summary keywords
How I built it
Used Flask as the backend, SQL Alchemy as the database, CSS + HTML for the stack, and we
Challenges I ran into
Deploying took a lot to figure out.
Also in terms of the database, I am familiar with SQL but am not so much as familiar how to connect it with a whole full stack web application. I ended up using Flask SQL Alchemy and learned ORM from scratch, but matching it with Heroku, AWS, and Jetbrains.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I think our app idea is very well throughout out and our UI is fun and appealing, which is exactly what we are going for. This is a tool that I would (and many people around me) use and get a lot of value from!
What I learned
I learned how to work with databases and integrate it with Python well. I learned about efficiently working as a team and git-workflows. And I learned about the importance of striving for a minimum viable product.
What's next for Notaholic
Finish the app and market it. I am confident that if our team had another 24 hours, we could finish it and do well! We will definitely continue with this product and believe in the value it provides.
