Inspiration

As students, we know how hard it can be to balance our school work and our life! It is a very challenging task to complete the many assignments that teachers will assign, keep up with sports and clubs, pursue personal interests, and spend time with family and friends, all the while maintaining good mental health. Add in procrastination and you got a really big problem.

What it does

To help, Balanced tracks all of the students’ assignments so that they can stay on top of things and avoid wasting valuable time. This way they can live a more stress-free life, and have additional time for extracurriculars as well as other activities that they enjoy doing.

How I built it

To turn Balanced into a reality, we used Figma, a prototype visualization website that helps us demo how the real app would look. In Figma, we have different prototypes showing the different screens to our app. To make our data visualizations, we used Tableau -a software that helps make professional data- and Google Spreadsheets to help simplify our data down.

Challenges I ran into

During this project, we ran into many challenges. Since we are all in different timezones, communication and time were a huge problem for us. Also, we ran into some technical problems while making the data. The Tableau software was not user friendly and there were a lot of internal errors. While we were making our logo for Balanced, we saw that the proportions weren't correct so we had to spend a lot of time stretching and moving around to make it look professional.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are all very proud of the work we put into this project. For most of us, it was our first hackathon, so we were really proud to come up with an idea and pool together our knowledge and resources to create an amazing end result!

What I learned

During this hackathon, we learned how to work virtually with other people. We all are from different places in the United States, so it was really interesting to see how we were able to collaborate together.

What's next for Balanced

We hope to learn app development skills so that we can actually turn our Balanced Prototype into our Balanced App.
