Inspiration
My pod mates and enthusiastic pod leader!
What we did
For this project our pod was given a portfolio site and we were asked to fix some issues and add new features to improve the site.
What I did
collaborated on issue #3
- Added alt attitudes to the social link icons
- Selected fonts
- Selected sizing for the text
Challenges I ran into
My largest challenge was my lack of experience. I found I did not know how to tackle most of the issues, but I tried to help and support where I could. Secondly, time zones also were a challenge. Being more behind then most people in our group I woke up the first morning and everyone was already working and claiming issues and I was behind. To combat this, for the rest of the week I woke up earlier so I could be more accessible to my pod mates.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
- Setting up my development environment correctly, this might sound small, but it is very exciting to me!
- Contributing to a large project
- Figuring out how to use GitHub better
What I learned
While I could not contribute as much as a would have liked, this week was still very valuable to me. First, I learned more about the functions and how to use terminal, it has always been a source of confusion to me so to correctly use it to set up my development environment is a great confidence booster. Secondly, I learned a lot just from reading and analyzing the code. I have never worked on a project this large before with so many files, but by spending lots of time reading and exploring the files I gained more understanding of how a large project is organized about how files work together. Lastly, I learned lots about HTML and CSS and I have more confidence in using HTML.
What's next for the portfolio
Personalization! I also plan on using what I learned so I can better prepare for my next project.
