Inspiration
The current pandemic has made it hard to reach out to coworkers as we did when we sat together in the same office room. The current communication tools used to require some sort of a hassle to connect with one another which eliminates the simple pop-up office feels making us more distant from one another.
What it does
We give a one-click solution for co-workers to connect with one other - reimagining the same pop on a desk feel as we had in the good old days
How we built it
We used WebRTC as our medium for connecting between peers backed by Firebase using Node.js. Basic HTML CSS and JS were used to come up with the basic working prototype.
Challenges we ran into
Finding a good video streaming solution was one of our greatest challenges. We researched many products and tried different tutorials until we stumbled upon WebRTC which we found to be best suited for our needs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Before this hackathon, we had little to no knowledge of implementing video chat. Surely making this work is one of our biggest accomplishments.
What we learned
We learned the basics of WebRTC - how it works, how it can be implemented etc.
What's next for Not-Knock App
The current prototype connects two people in the future our goal is to scale it for a larger number of users.
