Inspiration

Telling Stories That Are Untold The inspiration behind this paper stemmed from how many activists from higher-income areas think that a person is harming the environment just because they use disposable containers and utensils for food. I wanted to explore the issue of socio-economic inequality in regards to the environment. To create effective environmental policy, lawmakers and governments have to consider all groups' socio-economic statuses.

Challenges I ran into

Throughout the time of Envirothon, I wanted to code and work on a project with other people. I was excited to be a part of a team and to meet people from around the world. However, it did not turn out as well as I expected. My team members would rarely meet. They also did not have concrete ideas to get a project started. I tried many times to contact them and ask them to complete the project, but they did not contribute much. So when the deadline extended, I decided to pursue my research and format it into a paper. So, one of the challenges was to rely on me to do my project.

What I learned

I believe I learned a lot about research and how to communicate ideas effectively. I know how to obtain resources, extract the main ideas, and find the exact information I need. Because of using the textual features and gaining main ideas from a text, knowing what to write and how to format the paper became simple.

What's next for me

I will pursue more research on how technology and society interact and how technology can shape policy and culture. However, I want to do this type of research on a larger scale and impact more people. Also, I will better my skills in Python specifically to gain data to better my research and use it in a variety of technologies.
