Nostromos

Inspiration

Tired of having to wait until December to view your Spotify listening statistics? My inspiration for Nostromos was to use Spotify's API to make these numbers visible to users year-round.

What it does

The GOAL of Nostromos was to view your music statistics and create your own personalized listening dashboard. I did not have time to implement the API, but the website does exist and I hope to make it functional very soon.

How we built it

I built the website for Nostromos using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. It also has a domain! If you clone the Nostromos repository from GitHub and type nostromos.tech into a browser it ~should~ work.

Challenges we ran into

Although I have experience with Python and Java as a Computer Science major, this was my first time ever making a website. I also did not have a team, so I had a hard time implementing all of my ideas in time. Furthermore, I had trouble figuring out how to use Google Firebase to host the site so I was not able to get it up in time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Although I was not able to implement the API, I am proud of myself for creating the foundation of a project I would love to see to completion. A big goal of mine was to make something that would be aesthetically pleasing and easy to share, and I feel I have something I can be proud of as my vision for Nostromos expands.

What we learned

I learned the basics of HTML and CSS! When it comes to project development, I wish I would have focused on making the API work first before designing the website.

What's next for Nostromos

Getting the Spotify API implemented and site up and running! I would also love to implement a feature that allows users to blend/compare their music tastes and statistics with a friend. There are a lot of design changes to be made to the website as well...stay tuned.

Some ideas for Nostromos that I came up with during my brainstorm:

Ability to create a profile
Unlock badges based on listening time, amount of time using Nostromos, etc.
Have a friends list, chat features, and a review system to rate other users listening habits
Compare your current statistics to previous years
Music recommendations
An easily savable graphic of a users stats that can be saved to a device and posted on Instagram Stories
An ability to find other Nostromos users with similar interests
