Inspiration
I was inspired by the retro theme of Kent Hack Enough! I've always loved the aesthetic of 8bit so I wanted to create something that fits the theme of the hackathon as well as a project where I would be able to learn new tools and technologies.
What it does
nostalgic8bit.tech connects users social media platforms into one, displaying it in 8-bit style.
How I built it
I used HTML, and NES.css, an 8bit-like framework to build out the website along with using Google Firebase to authenticate user login and signup. My domain name for this project is nostalgic8bit.tech!
Challenges I ran into
I had no idea how to use Google Cloud products prior to this hackathon, so it was a learning curve on how to connect Firebase to my project. Moreover, I had some issues using the external CSS framework initially, but eventually figured it out in time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I learned and implemented Firebase into my project in a short period of time. I'm also very happy with the way that the UI looks!
What I learned
I learned how to use Firebase and how to use an external CSS framework.
What's next for nostalgic8bit.tech
In the future, I hope to build upon the web app by adding new features such as the ability to make posts or blogs from the site as well as see more media posts in the feed. I was in the process of learning how to use Google’s Firestore product, but was unable to implement it in time, so I'd love to try to implement it in the future. Moreover, I want to learn a way to dynamically have users' social media feeds and activities appear on the pages.
