Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project was due to the fact that all of our teammates were interested in video games and we wanted to see how popular video games changed over time.
What it does
Our project aims to find trends in how popular video game publishers made games that changed over time and what percentage of total sales that each publisher accounted for.
How we built it
We used python and the pandas framework to perform data cleaning and data analysis and also to find trends over time. We also used excel to create the data visualizations after we performed data cleaning.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges that we ran into was the fact that the data format was not easy to work with and not standard and delimited. It contained words that were hard to work with. Another challenge that we ran into was the fact that some of the cells were empty. Therefore, we had to use pandas tools to clean that data out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to analyze sales by decade, and the percentage of total sales by each company through raw and unfiltered data. We were to find a lot of trends in how video game production and sales changed throughout time.
What we learned
Although we had knowledge in python and a little bit with pandas, we learned a lot about data cleaning that we did not know before.
What's next for Nostalgia through Video Games
We might try to find some statistical trends in how some video game publishers might comprise a large amount of sales.
