Inspiration

Hackathon projects often have incredible stories behind them, but those stories are usually hidden behind screenshots and bullet points. We wanted to flip that idea on its head by making the journey itself the product. Inspired by stop-motion animation and interactive storytelling, we built an experience where users don't just read about a hackathon—they live through one.

What it does

Our project transforms a developer's hackathon journey into an interactive, scroll-driven narrative. As users move through the page, they experience each stage of building a project—from brainstorming and coding to debugging and finally submitting. Every chapter is carefully animated to create the feeling of stepping through a living story rather than browsing a website.

How we built it

We built the experience with React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Framer Motion, and TanStack Router. The biggest focus was creating a seamless narrative by combining smooth scroll-based animations, modular story chapters, responsive layouts, and optimized rendering so the experience feels fluid across devices.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part wasn't building the website—it was making it feel alive. We spent a lot of time synchronizing animations with scrolling, maintaining performance, and ensuring every transition felt natural while keeping the storytelling engaging from beginning to end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of turning a familiar hackathon experience into something memorable. Instead of presenting information through static pages, we created an interactive story that blends animation, design, and development into a single immersive experience. We also delivered a polished prototype with smooth performance under hackathon time constraints.

What we learned

We learned that storytelling can be just as important as technology. Building engaging user experiences requires thoughtful pacing, animation, performance optimization, and design working together—not just great code.

What's next

We're expanding the project into a storytelling platform where creators can build and share their own interactive development journeys. Future updates include richer animations, sound design, branching narratives, customization tools, and AI-assisted story generation to make every project presentation as engaging as the work behind it.
