Inspiration
Runners can be pretty obsessive people and love looking at data. I think a digital journal of courses and tracks run is a product many people would use. Also HS athletes usually do not get strava premium, but many have milestat which is $150 a year and a mid UX overall. This brings user interaction of strava to that stage and a subscription service is very possible.
What it does
Displays every cross country course, track, and marathon course in VA. Users create a log of where they have run /spectated and are able to see reviews of other courses and explore the map.
How we built it

Challenges we ran into
functions not working, for example: checking off what you want to see and it just being front end coded. Also the branding was super ugly when I attempted to use a topographic map, so just wanted the site to be usable enough. Also the data set was giving very small outputs at first so finding sites with proper data sets of more than just 3 tracks was helpful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Made it within the time constraints, made a working version. Also gamified the website a little with a user being able to gain medals if their reviews are written well.
What we learned
Aesthetics matter a bit, but also the product has to do the intended purpose quite well. The little mess ups deter users I think more than making one other part of the app perfect.
What's next for coursemap
Going to try to scale to the continental US and then possibly some foreign courses as well and set up real user account setup with Firebase and see if this site could be something people use.
