Inspiration

I once had to speak with four different customer service representatives about the same issue, and none of them could solve it. That experience showed me that many customer-service problems are actually symptoms of deeper operational and system issues.

What it does

Northwind Resolve is a unified operations platform for handling customer complaints across billing, metering, and field-service workflows. Instead of only reacting after a complaint happens, it helps teams preserve case history, coordinate transfers and field visits, detect billing risks, review exceptions, and feed corrections back into future validation.

How we built it

We built Northwind Resolve with Angular + TypeScript on the frontend and Kotlin + Spring Boot on the backend, with PostgreSQL, Flyway, Docker, and OpenAPI supporting the operational data layer and APIs. We are also integrating Gemini API for case summaries and recommendations, Solana for tamper-evident audit verification, Tiger Data for operational and time-series data, and Vultr for cloud deployment.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was fragmented and incomplete source data. We had to carefully distinguish between real source facts, deterministic derivations, and unavailable information instead of inventing account-level meter or billing history just to make the demo look better.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a working operational flow rather than just a mock UI: case search → unified workspace → transfer → field visit → billing-risk review → correction feedback. We also preserved append-only history, transactional updates, idempotency, and clear module boundaries.

What we learned

We learned that AI alone does not fix broken operations. Good customer service also depends on clean data flows, reliable handoffs, traceable history, and systems that can identify recurring root causes.

What's next for Northwind-Resolving

Next, we plan to add Gemini for case summaries and recommendations, Solana for tamper-evident audit verification, KPI dashboards, value-case analysis, and cloud deployment. The long-term goal is to help utilities not only resolve complaints faster, but prevent them from happening in the first place.
