Inspiration
Big decisions can feel overwhelming when useful information is scattered across websites and the advice you find assumes everyone has the same resources. I wanted to build a tool that starts with a person’s actual goal and circumstances, then shows more than one way forward.
What it does
Northstar asks about a user’s goal, interests, experience, time, budget, location, and constraints. It looks up relevant background information, then generates three routes to compare. Each route includes a reason it might fit, tradeoffs, requirements, and concrete next steps. A constellation map makes the options easy to explore, while progress and feedback controls help users move from choosing a path to taking action.
How we built it
I built Northstar with AI as the coder and I as the Idea developer. I used it to design the interface, write and revise the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and debug the route-generation flow. The app uses Wikipedia for linked background reading and a small browser-based AI model to generate personalized routes.
