Inspiration
People in Northern Ontario often miss great local events because information is scattered across multiple platforms. We wanted to build an AI assistant that helps users discover events that truly match their interests.
What it does
Northivo uses AI to recommend local events based on a user's interests, budget, location, and availability. It makes finding the right event simple and personalized.
How we built it
We built Northivo using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python (Flask), and NVIDIA's Nemotron LLM API. The AI analyzes user preferences to generate personalized event recommendations.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was building an AI-powered MVP within a limited hackathon timeframe. We focused on delivering the core recommendation feature instead of adding too many extras.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a working AI-powered event recommendation platform. It addresses a real community problem.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate an LLM into a web application, improve prompt engineering, and prioritize features for rapid MVP development.
What's next for Northivo
We plan to add live event integrations, user accounts, smart notifications, and expand the platform to support communities across Canada.
