Project summary
Self-hosted MCP (Streamable HTTP) + Strands tools + deterministic policy gate for the Northbridge household (Avery & Morgan Quinn). The live Control Plane demo lets judges exercise the same tool calls without hardware.
Inspiration
Amazon opened Alexa+ to MCP Agent Skills. Households still drown in dues, duplicates, and surprise charges. We wanted an Everyday-style agent Alexa+ can call that does busywork quietly and only surfaces a human when policy says so.
What it does
Northbridge Home Ops exposes MCP tools: list_upcoming_dues, parse_bill_status, check_funding, detect_anomaly, prepare_decision_brief, mark_auto_handled, and notify_human. A deterministic policy engine chooses AUTO versus HUMAN_REQUIRED. A hash-chained audit ledger attests every tool call. The Web Control Plane simulates Alexa+ calling the MCP so judges can demo without hardware.
How we built it
Python Streamable HTTP MCP (protocol 2025-11-25), Strands Agents SDK @tools plus DemoModel offline / Bedrock-ready path (AWS Builder), Vite/React warm-paper UI, Vercel live demo, and an Apache-2.0 public repo.
Challenges
We kept money-like actions behind policy rather than LLM freelancing, made MCP Streamable HTTP work for judges, and aligned the Alexa+ track with the AWS Builder mini without thin wrappers.
Accomplishments
We have an offline demo with clear AUTO and HUMAN_REQUIRED scenarios, a live demo at https://northbridge-alexa-mcp.vercel.app, a ledger verify path, and a Northbridge pseudonym household only: Avery & Morgan Quinn.
What's next
Wire real Alexa+ preview skill registration, add the Bedrock production path, and connect email and calendar providers.
