Most pharmacies require an assistant to manually check the expiration dates of every product on the shelves and dispose of the expired items, which is inefficient. Expired medication is also dangerous, due to the risk of bacterial growth and a decrease in strength.
Our project helps to automatically identify and filter expired medicines, through the use of the Optical Character Recognition tool Pytesseract and a conveyor belt system. The conveyor belt was built using Arduino servo motors, paper and cardboard. A laptop webcam is used to read the expiration labels.
