Nondestructive Fingerprint Door Lock

  When the ultrasonic sensor detects a hand nearby, it activates the fingerprint scanner.

  If the scanner detects a known fingerprint, a motor winds up a string attached to the door handle.

It is common culture for college students to prop their doors open so that they do not need to use their keys. However, this creates a lack of security, where anyone is able to walk into the room. This project is the solution. A fingerprint identification system incorporates both the security of locking a door with the ease of not having to remember a key. When a known fingerprint is detected, a motor rotates, winding up a string tied to the handle. All of the components can be attached to the door using nondestructive methods, such as command strips, which makes it perfect for a college dorm.
