Inspiration

The inspiration behind LRBT eye care hospital stems from a deep commitment to providing free and accessible eye care to millions of underserved people across Pakistan. With blindness and visual impairment affecting many in the region, we wanted to create a non-profit that would bring hope to those who couldn't afford treatment. Our belief in “No man, woman or child should go blind unnecessarily” drives us to help the visually impaired live a better quality of life.

What it does

LRBT provides comprehensive eye care services, from simple consultations to complex surgeries, all at no cost to patients. The organization operates across 19 hospitals and 61 primary eye care centers in Pakistan, offering treatments for cataracts, glaucoma, corneal diseases, and more. We are focused on preventing and treating avoidable blindness.

How I built it

We have built LRBT eye care hospital through a robust network of hospitals, dedicated doctors, and healthcare professionals who offer specialized services. By partnering with donors, organizations, and supporters worldwide, we've expanded our operations and enhanced our ability to serve remote and underprivileged communities. Technology has also been integrated to streamline patient management and care delivery.

Challenges I ran into

One of the main challenges was finding sustainable funding sources to support our operations. Running a healthcare organization with such a wide reach requires constant funding and collaboration. Another challenge was raising awareness about eye donation and its impact, as misconceptions and lack of knowledge often create hurdles.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud to have treated over 53 million patients since our inception and conducted 5.5 million major and minor surgeries. We’ve significantly impacted Pakistan’s healthcare landscape by bringing eye care to people who previously had no access. The number of lives we've touched is a testament to the importance of our work.

What I learned

Through this journey of LRBT, we learned that the power of collaboration and a shared vision can make a lasting impact. We also realized the importance of leveraging technology and data to improve service delivery and outreach. Most importantly, we've learned that even the smallest act of kindness can change someone’s life forever.

What's next for Non-profit eye care organization

We aim to continue expanding our services, particularly in remote areas, by increasing the number of primary eye care centers. We’re also focusing on strengthening our eye donation campaigns to encourage corneal transplants. Another exciting initiative on the horizon is integrating telemedicine to enhance access to eye care in Pakistan’s most isolated regions.
