Inspiration

There are so many clubs at UBC, each with their own instagram account that you have to follow, it becomes very difficult for students to track all these events and accounts, and as a result they miss out on a lot of events that they would have liked to attend.

What it does

NOMO is a centralized calendar-based platform for students to keep track of all UBC clubs and events. Instead of having to follow and stay updated with Instagram posts for club events, NOMO allows clubs to upload their events to a universal calendar for students to see. Students can then search and filter for events that are uploaded by the clubs. When a student clicks on an event, the student can view event details (location, description, dates/times, requirements, registration deadline), an option to save the event to a student’s personal Google calendar, and an option to navigate to the club’s social media page.

How we built it

We ideated it by sharing our ideas in a google doc. We then making a flowchart to create a step by step process. Then narrowing it down our ideas to make a MVP. We used the Full Calendar Library . We made our own event pages with the help of A.I. and used Python and Flask for the backend server. We used React and Javascript for the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding terminologies and connecting backend to frontend. We had trouble understanding the process of using git as we were all pretty new to it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to build a working project starting from scratch. Before this, we had little to no experience building projects so it felt like a huge achievement to have a finished product.

What we learned

We learned how to effectively use A.I. and collaborate in a team. We also learned how to build a project from scratch, and also learn more about terminologies. We discovered more about libraries and how to use them as well.

What's next for NOMO

We would like to deploy it to a centralized website where clubs can run all their administrative work, such as buying tickets, giving out memberships, tracking revenue.
