Inspiration
I wanted to build something for people recovering from bad relationship experiences. People often struggle to discuss such topics and seek validation. I am building a journaling app that offers a safe space for people to share their thoughts, and an AI companion helps them self-reflect and heal.
What it does
NoMo is an AI journal companion designed for compassionate replies and daily affirmations that help you grow, uncover patterns in your behaviour, and improve wellbeing.
Whether you're capturing your thoughts, reflecting on your day, or building a writing habit, NoMo offers a private, AI-supported space to write with ease in a safe and judgment-free environment.
How we built it
The current MVP is built with Cursor, Supabase, RevenueCat, Expo, flagship AI models, and extensive thought & research.
Challenges we ran into
We want to build guided journeys for recovery, make our AI companion more compassionate with memory personalization for each user - these are big tasks and require solving a lot of engineering challenges that we wanted to solve in the MVP, but it wasn't feasible
Our focus was to keep the app as straightforward as possible to use, and therefore, we had to drop a lot of features we wanted in NoMo. We want to make it a voice-first journal /companion in the next iteration
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Our AI companion helps people uncover patterns in their journal. e.g., helps people spot gaslighting & narcissistic abuse behaviour based on their entries - and we share affirmations that help people get better
What we learned
A lot of app development, payment integration, and cursor
