Inspiration
We wanted to make cooking social again. Everyone shares food pics, but no one’s really playing with food, so we built NomNom to turn everyday cooking into a game with weekly themes, friendly competition, and a reason to try new things in the kitchen. :)
What it does
NomNom connects you with a rotating “kitchen crew” every week. Each week has a new theme like “make something yellow” or “recreate your favorite childhood snack.” You cook, upload your photo, see others’ creations, vote for your favorites, and climb the leaderboard.
How we built it
We designed NomNom entirely in Figma, focusing on a fun, community-driven experience. We mapped user flows for onboarding, weekly challenges, and voting screens, and built an interactive prototype to show how each part connects.
Challenges we ran into
We had to pivot our idea multiple times to make sure it felt unique and still matched the hackathon prompt. Balancing competition with community and figuring out how to keep weekly themes exciting were also tricky parts of the design process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of our user research, our detailed design figures and sketches, and especially the skit we created to present NomNom’s concept. It really brought the idea to life and helped people see how fun the app could be.
What we learned
We learned about SWOT analysis, iteration, product ideation roadmaps, and how to think strategically about design decisions. Most of all, we learned how fun and fast-paced an ideathon can be, turning random ideas into something that actually feels real.
What's next for NomNom
We plan to add a feature to Kitchen Crew where you can play with your friends through purchasing premium. We will also design and integrate seasonal themes to the Kitchen Crew prompts (i.e. Gingerbread cookies for Christmas).
