Inspiration
Our inspiration stemmed from the mundane and tedious nature of planning vacations. With our web app, you won't know your vacation destination until a complete itinerary has been generated for you. Our goal is to inject more thrill and excitement into your journey as you embark on your adventure into the unknown.
What it does
By completing a brief questionnaire, our web app can produce a randomized vacation destination, complete with a comprehensive itinerary of activities to enjoy during your trip. Your itinerary will include suggestions for both lunch and dinner, as well as two exciting activities. In the event that you're not thrilled with any of the options provided, NomadsLand can generate an entirely new itinerary for you.
How we built it
NomadsLand was developed as a web application, using HTML and Bootstrap for the website's front-end. For back-end functionality, we utilized JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, and the Google Cloud Platform.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered numerous obstacles, particularly with the Google Cloud Platform, since none of us had prior experience using it. We faced difficulties in hosting and launching our website. Additionally, we had trouble accessing our domain name through Domain.com, which resulted in last-minute rush to ensure the correct name was set up for our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of learning to use and getting Google Cloud to work, as no one on the team had ever used it before.
What we learned
Our learning experience included understanding the connection between a database and a website, and how to utilize the information stored in the database to display it on the website. We also gained valuable insights into Google Cloud, including how to host a website on the platform and the intricacies of connecting and communicating with a database on the back end.
What's next for NomadsLand
What's next for NomadsLand is adding more travel locations across the country and expanding worldwide.
