Inspiration
A close family member expressed interest in Van Life, so I thought "hey, I think I can help with that.".
What it does
NomadLink provides a gateway to a private ecosystem within the Van Life space. Nomads can create and share trips, propose activities, make connections, and work on rig building projects all in one app.
How we built it
It's cross platform app built with React Native (JS + RN). Cursor + Opus 4.6 did the heavy lifting. I also submitted my own tweaks after looking up React Native documentation, a bit of Googling, and a brief learning stint with Scrimba (web dev learning platform).
Challenges we ran into
Late start, and Flu season! I found out about the project a couple days after the official start date. Then I caught the flu and was sick for two weeks. Setting up RevenueCat stuff was kinda weird, but I got it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built and shipped something by myself in two weeks (with some help from AI, lol).
What we learned
I re-learned React basics, and learned a bit of React Native with this project. I also got some experience with monetization, and UI. Coding with an AI agent was a first for me as well, and I'm blown away with how well it turned out.
What's next for NomadLink
Further integration of safety features, and providing a detailed map view of activities, hazards, heatmaps, etc. I'd also like to implement a Trip mode, where trips can be calculated via the app to give you a rundown on the costs, weather, and any happenings at your destination. Also, build out the "Tribes" feature, but that's a secret :D.
small Update (for honesty 🫶)
So after testing my build, it appears that I left the default product catalog tied to RevenueCat in the MVP. I've corrected the product listing in the RC dashboard, and the app loads the full payment stuff. Also, I added some of the text here because it cut off while copy pasting. God bless! See ya!
