Inspiration
So often times when we plan for trips, we are too focused on taking the shortest path and achieving the quickest time. One thing that is omitted is the impact of transportation methods on the great green planet. Of course, every car is different. And then, nola came along.
What it does
nola is your down-to-earth guide to fuelling your sustainable journeys across a less-polluted planet. Not only providing routes of transportation, nola provides you with comprehensive information on the sustainability of each option, helping you make a greener journey.
How we built it
Equipped with holistic information on vehicles, nola utilizes python and google-directions to plan out your optimal trip. In addition, nola's innovative fuel economy algorithms offer you a detailed breakdown of each route's impact on the planet.
Challenges we ran into
Limited with the route information, we were initially unable to analyze the traffic in detail. However, after prudently data mining the resources available, we eventually devised a work-around solution that improved the quality of the predictions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Aiming to provide comprehensive information on cars of all kinds, nola contains data of cars dated all the way back to 1983, having more than 44,000 different models of cars! We are very proud of our unique model which performs more nuanced estimations than any other existing solution, which takes into account real-time traffic, construction, and road quality.
What we learned
Collaboration was a huge reason why we were able to finish this project. With many different aspects of nola needing to be explored, collaboration was the only way to go.
What's next for nola
Given that nola already contains coordinates that are sufficient to mark out the route in a graphic UI, nola will be back with an even better visual presentation in no time.
