About the Nojoomi Project

Inspiration

Nojoomi was inspired by the need for a simple and practical way for parents to help their children build positive daily habits while maintaining appropriate parental oversight. We wanted to create more than just a monitoring application, so we designed a system that encourages children through tasks, rewards, and positive reinforcement.

How We Built It

Nojoomi was built as a Flutter application with Firebase as its backend. We used Firebase Authentication for secure account management, Realtime Database for storing users, tasks, rewards, and progress, Firebase Cloud Storage for images and voice recordings, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications.

The application supports separate parent and child experiences. Parents can create and manage tasks, monitor their children's progress, and provide rewards, while children can view their tasks, mark them as completed, and submit proof such as photos or voice recordings.

What We Learned

Building Nojoomi taught us how to design a complete parent-child workflow, manage real-time data efficiently, and integrate multiple Firebase services into a production-ready Flutter application. We also learned more about authentication, cloud storage, notifications, data security, and designing interfaces that are simple enough for children while still providing parents with useful controls.

Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that balances parental control with a positive experience for children. We also faced technical challenges related to real-time synchronization, handling uploaded media, authentication, notifications, and keeping the application responsive and reliable.

Through these challenges, we improved the architecture and performance of the application and gained valuable experience building a real-world product from concept to implementation.
