A disturbing vehicle sound, such as engine knocking, ticking or turbocharger whining, cannot be described easily by the noise level CLASSIFICATION BY NOISE CHARACTERISTICS: Aerodynamic noise: Combustion noise Mechanical noise: ENGINE NOISE;

a certain focus can be seen on the development of vehicles with increased specific power and torque and with decreased exhaust gas emissions. Both points will still be important in the next few years, even if the exhaust gas emissions are currently at a very low level. However, reducing noise and fuel consumption is expected to become more important in the future.

Mufflers are installed along the exhaust pipe as an element of the exhaust system of an IC engine to reduce its exhaust noise. Mufflers use neat technology to cancel out the noise. The muffler reduces exhaust noise by dampening the pulsations in the exhaust gases and allowing them to expand slowly. It was usually made of sheet steel, coated with aluminum to reduce corrosion. Some are made of stainless steel. A muffler contains perforated pipes, baffles, and resonance chambers. Many also contain sound-absorbing material such as fiberglass or wire wool.

TYPES OF MUFFLER : Reactive type muffler : Absorptive type muffler :

A sound level meter is used for MEASURING sound that travels through the air EG

The Muffler was connected to engine exhaust by using polyvinyl chloride pipe. The muffler is connected parallel to the exhaust pipe. The Sound level meter is placed apart 1m from the muffler.

The modified muffler is completely reduce the noise level in different speeds. As per environmental conditions, the noise level is control through the modified muffler. In future, the above muffler is fully fabricated in advanced method like CFD analysis has been take forward to reduce the noise level.
