Online shopping platforms often use psychological techniques such as scarcity messages ("Only 2 left in stock"), urgency warnings ("Offer ends in 5 minutes"), and exaggerated discounts to encourage impulse purchases. While these tactics can sometimes be genuine, they can also influence users into making rushed decisions.

We wanted to build a tool that helps consumers make rational purchasing decisions instead of emotional ones. This idea led to the creation of NoFOMO AI, an AI-powered shopping intelligence platform that identifies manipulation tactics and provides transparent product analysis.

What it does

NoFOMO AI allows users to enter a product name or e-commerce product link and receive an AI-generated analysis.

The platform can:

Detect urgency-based marketing tactics Identify scarcity messaging Analyze discount claims Generate a FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) score Provide a Buy/Wait recommendation Summarize product strengths and weaknesses Help consumers make informed decisions

The goal is to empower users with information before they make a purchase.

How we built it

We built NoFOMO AI using:

HTML CSS JavaScript Google Gemini API Vercel for deployment GitHub for version control

The frontend was designed with a modern cyber-inspired interface to create an engaging user experience. User inputs are processed and analyzed using Google's Gemini API, which generates intelligent insights and recommendations in real time.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was integrating the Gemini API and handling different API responses. We encountered authentication issues, deployment challenges, and model availability errors during development.

Another challenge was designing a user experience that clearly communicates complex AI analysis in a simple and visually appealing way. We spent significant time improving the interface, refining prompts, and ensuring that results were understandable to everyday users
