Inspiration

We all have awkward stories or painful memories about meeting a stranger or even lacking the opportunity to do so. In an era where social media are putting content at the centre, we want to focus on the issue at its core.

What it does

In our app, you will be able to both connect people in your network, and easily get connected to your second-degree connections. Our app is based on the idea that you are 6 people away from anyone in the world. As referrals make strangers turn into friends, we believe this app will enable people to easily share their interests, knowledge, and leisure time with people they can trust.

How we built it

First, we analyzed the problem at hand and identified its roots. Second, we brainstorm on the key solutions our app would bring and how best design them for the user to have the most enjoyable experience. Third, we discussed the idea with people surrounding us, collecting valuable feedback and a clear desire for this solution. Fourth, we built a prototype of NodeR on Figma by leveraging our different experience to build this accessible but powerful platform for people to establish new connections, or “nodes” as we call them here.

Challenges we ran into

Even though we are now used to working together virtually and are equipped with great online tools, the clashing of ideas, brainstorming and excitement is limited in this environment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Smooth teamwork, even though some team members were not able to be with us in person. Exciting ideation journey that took us from random discussions about food and finding a person to settle with. We are extremely proud

What we learned

You dont need to code to build a FUCKING App. But you need to know how to code to have a FUNCTIONING App. UX/UI designers are quite useful but when you have a great team you can delay their usage. Use templates, no need to reinvent the wheel. Discussions are great, especially if there is a diverse working group. Respect other ideas but be critically about them. Try to understand what your teammate is telling you, even when you completely disagree with her/him. 2 Days is quite a lot of time to come up with an idea and prototype it.

What's next for NodeR

Going forward, we envision this app to expand into creating business connections and we aim to integrate machine learning to our algorithm to make better connection suggestions to increase the likelihood of right matches.
