Inspiration

------------

We noticed that while colleges can be a great way to socialize and meet people, there still tend to be people that struggle to get out of their comfort zone and introduce themselves. We want to help!

What it does

---------------

Our project is just a front-end demonstration of the layout for our web application. We created the main pages that will drive our platform, along with designing an algorithm for calculating the distance between two users based on their real-time coordinates!

How we built it

------------------

We did a major crash course in HTML/CSS to design the front-end of our pages. Using Flexbox and minimalist styling strategies, we created webpages that will be pleasing to the eye and simple for our users to navigate.

Challenges we ran into

--------------------------

Server-side hosting, processing, and integrating our front-end to the back-end overall was the hardest challenge we didn't think we would face... Countless hours of hardcore researching, testing, and debugging led to no avail which halted our ability to integrate our functional application into the front-end of our web app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

------------------------------------------

Designing an algorithm that references the Geolocation API to measure the distance between two users in a language (JavaScript) we hadn't really used before until this hackathon was a major success. Coming up with good page layouts and a general web-app flowchart was also really helpful and contributed greatly to our productivity.

What we learned

-------------------

Back-end work is HARD and there's a lot to consider when designing a full-stack web-app... especially within a 24 hour period when one has barely used JavaScript in their coding history before. We will definitely be getting some online courses in that.

What's next for Node Social - Quick and Easy Connections!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Our team expressed great interest in this project regardless of the challenges we faced in linking together a full-stack web-app. We want to continue to learn about front-end with frameworks like React.js, back-end with Firebase and AWS, and API design so that we might be able to let this app reach its true potential and revolutionize the way people meet and connect on campuses and in public spaces!
