Inspiration
Introducing No More Socks, the ultimate solution for teens like Tyler who want presents they truly love! We built this app with Tyler's frustration in mind – tired of receiving gifts that don't quite hit the mark.
What it does
With No More Socks, Tyler can create a personalised wishlist, making it easy for family and friends to log in, discover his preferences, and select the perfect gifts. Say goodbye to disappointing surprises and hello to a more joyful gift-giving experience.
How we built it
Built using React and Express.
Challenges we ran into
As a team we decided to use the opportunity to learn something new and had a play with tailwind. This resulted in slow progress on the design aspect and a decision to pivot and remove tailwind as we pushed to get some of our frontend styled. We utilised Express too, something we had only briefly used previously. It was a great experience that we all took great value from and learnt a great deal.
What we learned
The hackathon provided us with a valuable learning experience. We delved into the fundamentals of Tailwind CSS, which seems to be a powerful tool for our future projects. Additionally, revisiting the use of Express for our backend was great for our knowledge and experience. One of our team members also had their first exposure to React which was a great win.
What's next for No More Socks!
The future goals for No More Socks include the implementation of a donation pot, allowing families and friends to financially support their loved ones through gift purchases. Additionally, we'd introduce a regifting feature, ensuring that any unwanted presents find their way to someone who appreciates them or are donated to charity. As a team, we have many other exciting ideas, and if time permits in the future, it would be a fantastic project to pick up where we'd left off.
