Inspiration

As part of the AAPI community, our hearts break seeing our people, especially the vulnerable population of our community, being attacked and executed mercilessly because of the propaganda that we are the cause of COVID-19 spread. Despite the reality that the AAPI people are being endangered every waking day, there is not enough media coverage to inform this urgent matter. As a result, we strive to create a resourceful site that gathers and provides all the news about the issue, and practical ways to help the people whose lives are at risk.

What it does

The website informs the audience about the history of racism against the APPI community that dated back to 1982 and the increasing Asian hate crimes within the past year that are caused by the public mania of COVID-19 spread. The website also directs users to different platforms that host petitions, donations, and crimes-reporting service. Our website also has a chatbot that interacts with users and assists them in learning more about the issue.

How we built it

We built our webpage using HTML, Javascript, and CSS. We used Visual Studio Code in order to collaboratively work on the project. Additionally, we gathered online petitions and organizations to provide resources for our users.

Challenges we ran into

While running the chatbot, certain outputs did not work since the words in the input were repeated in the output. In order to fix this, we restructured the sentences to make sure the words were not repeated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we're able to create a website from scratch that has lots of helpful information although we are all beginners at programming. The greatest accomplishment is to see our work come to life, and to spread the message that it carries to our friends and family with the hope that it will educate those that are unaware of the situations and protect the people who are at risk.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned more about different ways we can bring our community together by understanding what the Asian community has gone through during the pandemic. By researching this topic, we were able to inform ourselves about the most severe problems the AAPI community was facing and how we could combat those problems to create a more inclusive community. As challenges arose, we learned how to work cohesively as a team to overcome those challenges and create a project that was satisfying to everyone.

What's next for No More Hate

We plan to create a domain for our website and update it with more resources. Additionally, we are all passionate about attacks against other groups and aim towards making more webpages in the future to spread awareness and provide resources to support other groups.
