No Frizz Rizz

Inspiration

As all of the creators are curly-haired women, we all face the problem of figuring out what to do with our hair every day in a variety of settings, as well as uncertainty on daily care due to the number of spread-out resources. Additionally, many of our friends, and family who also have curly and wavy hair have faced these issues in the workspace, and this can often cause feelings of shame and not feeling like we belong.

What it does

After uploading a picture of yourself, the software will determine which category your hair falls under: straight, wavy, or curly (though just because your hair is classified is straight does not mean it does not fall a bit under the wavy category. We address this by treating straight hair as slightly wavy!). You will then answer a few questions about your typical hair routine including how many days are between hair washes and whether or not you are on a budget. No Frizz Rizz will then provide a bit of analysis on your hair routine and hair condition (and give some tips on water sustainability), then provide a personalized hair routine for you, with products based on whether or not you are on a budget (if you can't spend money on your hair routine, no worries! We'll be providing an at-home reccomendation! If you are on a budget, we'll provide both the at-home reccomendation and a low-cost alternative! If you have no budget, we'll provide a more expensive option as well as the previous two, all of which should be able to work for your hair!). No Frizz Rizz will also give you some hair-styling tips! Additionally, every day, the application will, based on which day it is between your hair washes, provide you hair care and hair styling tips that will help you look your best!

How we built it

While the application is not complete yet, we have programmed some of the backend using Python, and the front-end is simulated on Figma! Between this, we have also done some research on curly hair care!

Challenges we ran into

As this is quite a large undertaking, we have not completed full integration of our code, so right now there are unconnected pieces, however together we believe they provide a general idea of how our application looks like!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to tackle a challenge that all of us have dealt with and we're proud of being able to show off our concept (as well as a working cnn)!

What we learned

Through this process, we've learned both technical and team-building skills. In terms of technical work, our team collectively has learned how to use Figma, how to test single images on a cnn, and more about hair care than we did before!

What's next for No Frizz Rizz

Hopefully we'll be able to continue working on this project, but if not, we're hoping that this leads to inspiration for other curly girls!
