Inspiration
We were inspired by Bixby Vision that was available for Samsung users. We took the idea and tried to implement it in ways that is useful for Home Depot.
What it does
It has the basic features like getting information about store products such as description, availability and location by scanning the barcode, calculator, notepad, converter and employee messaging. We improvised it a step further so that now store associates can just scan the products itself even without labels/packaging and still be able to get information about it. In addition to that, we added the feature of leaderboard and some games to motivate store associates to learn more about the products that Home Depot offers to its valued customers.
How we built it
We mainly used Microsoft Word to design the user interface of the app and used InVision to make it come alive.
Challenges we ran into
We are a team of first year students and have limited knowledge on programming. We tried learning more about Android Studio but it was impossible to master it in a day or two. Therefore, we consulted the mentors and got advice that we could pitch our ideas even without actually having to execute the code on Android Studio. Towards the end, we shifted our goal to designing the interface and user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Halfway through the process, we were very close to giving up but thanks to a mentor's advice, we manage to turn things around in just 8 hours and have our idea be made possible into an app interface.
What we learned
We learned how to use InVision to bring our ideas to life. Other than that, we also learned that the planning stages were just as important as the implementation stages and to never give up even when things get rough.
What's next for NNL
Our goal is to gain more programming skills and be able to turn our concept into a functioning app. We hope to be able to sell our idea to companies like Home Depot.
