Inspiration
Our inspiration sparked after learning about the UNC Charlotte Net Price Calculator. This website calculates a student's "average net price of attendance" for the school year. As college students, financial management can come as a challenge or second tier problem behind the daily stress of course deadlines, social and personal life, maybe even a job. To help ease this stress, we create a website that will help students with budgeting.
What it does
Our website advances the net price calculator. Instead of outputting their price of attendance, we calculate how much money the student has left after subtracting the tuition from the federal aid. If the student has a remaining amount of money, we give them advice on how to budget it. If the student has no money left or is in debt, we will suggest them a student friendly way of acquiring money.
How we built it
HTML, Flask, Visual Studio Code, Python, GitHub, Figma
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced was trying to implement user input in our program. The user input would allow us to make a budget based on real users.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We developed a working website that outputs results.
What we learned
We learned a little bit more about how to use figma and flask.
What's next for Niner on a Budget
If the student has no money remaining or is in debt, in the future, we would suggest them a friendly way of investing or decreasing their spending, while also providing them resources to apply for aid. Additionally, we would reprogram both the site, and our mobile app to cater to user's input data.
