Introduction
The sponsored grand prize winner of UCSC's CruzHacks 2023 was sponsored by Niantic, the augmented reality company best known for developing popular games like Pokemon Go. The winning team, Naihactic, consisted of two programers, one an undergrad from the Baskin School of Engineering, who developed a unique platform called Naihactic.
What it does
Naihactic is an augmented reality application that allows people with physical difficulties to interact with objects in the real world. The platform employs AR technology that goes from atoms to electrons and back to atoms, allowing for a seamless and intuitive interaction experience. For instance, if a user was trying to turn on a light switch, Naihactic would enable the user to turn it on virtually.
How we built it
Using Niantic's Lightship Augmented Reality Developer Kit (ARDK) we were able to realize our proof of concept in the Unity development platform. We then used Xcode to build an iOS app for iPhone.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The judges were impressed by the team's innovative use of augmented reality and the potential impact of their project on people with physical difficulties. They commended the team for their technical expertise, creativity, and dedication to making a positive impact on society. As the grand prize winner, the team was awarded a cash prize and the opportunity to work with Niantic to further develop their platform and bring it to market.
Conclusion
Overall, Naihactic's project demonstrated the power of technology to create positive change and promote inclusivity. By using augmented reality to enable people with physical difficulties to interact with objects in the real world, the team showed that innovation can break down barriers and make the world a better place.
