Inspiration:

NightRaid was born out of a challenge presented to us by Symplistic.ai and Eightpoint. The goal was clear: build an AI that empowers people to better understand and manage their financial situation.

What it does:

NightRaid is an AI assistant that reviews and analyzes users' financial statements. It performs in-depth risk analysis and provides clear, actionable guidance to help users make informed financial decisions.

How we built it:

NightRaid is a web application that runs an Ollama model on a remote server. When a user uploads a financial document, it is securely transmitted to the server and processed by our AI for analysis.

Challenges we ran into:

One of our main challenges was that Symplistic.ai did not perform as expected. After multiple attempts and persistent errors, we made the decision to pivot to a more reliable solution — ultimately landing on a locally hosted Ollama model.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of:

We successfully built an AI that responds consistently and accurately within its intended scope — no small feat given the complexity of prompt engineering and instruction tuning. NightRaid is reliable and returns responses within an acceptable timeframe.

What we learned:

Through this project, we deepened our knowledge of both web development and AI development. While we had prior experience with web development, AI was the frontier — and navigating it taught us the most.

What’s next for NightRaid:

While NightRaid successfully delivers on its core goals, there is clear room for growth. Future improvements include upgrading to a more powerful API model, refining the user interface, expanding server bandwidth to support more concurrent users, and enhancing server hardware to run the AI model faster and more efficiently.
