Nico-DEX Project Overview

Inspiration

The Nico-DEX project was inspired by the growing issue of nicotine addiction among young adults. With alarming statistics on tobacco use, I aimed to create a solution that helps individuals track and understand their nicotine consumption.

What I Learned

  • Sensor Technology: Gained insights into using the MQ135 sensor for detecting nicotine levels.
  • Data Analysis: Learned to calculate nicotine components and present data effectively.
  • Web Development: Improved skills in creating a user-friendly web application for tracking consumption.

Building the Project

Key components of Nico-DEX include:

  1. Hardware: An MQ135 sensor connected to an ESP32 microcontroller.
  2. Display: A 1cm blue LED display for real-time readings.
  3. Power Supply: A 5V Li-ion rechargeable battery for portability.
  4. Web App: An interface for logging daily and monthly nicotine consumption.

Challenges Faced

  • Calibration: Ensuring accurate readings from the MQ135 sensor was challenging.
  • Data Integration: Required troubleshooting to connect hardware with the web app.
  • Technical Limitations: Budget constraints limited component access.

Conclusion

Nico-DEX has been a rewarding project that merges technology with social awareness, aiming to empower individuals in understanding and managing their nicotine intake.
