Niana

Inspiration

Developers have GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, and countless AI coding assistants. Designers? They're still manually pixel-pushing in Figma. We built Niana to give designers their own AI partner - because if AI can write code, it should definitely design interfaces too.

What it does

Niana is an AI design partner that generates beautiful UI components from natural conversation. Chat with AI, watch designs materialize on an infinite canvas in real-time, iterate with simple prompts, and export to production-ready code.

How we built it

Next.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, TailwindCSS 4, React Flow for infinite canvas, Convex for real-time database, OpenAI API for AI generation, and WorkOS for authentication.

Challenges we ran into

Real-time synchronization between AI streaming, canvas updates, and database was complex. Managing artifact versions and preventing race conditions required careful state orchestration. Optimizing canvas performance with multiple live previews pushed React Flow to its limits.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a production-ready AI design tool in record time. The streaming generation feels magical. Created a unique infinite canvas workflow that's never been done before. Polished UI that rivals commercial products.

What we learned

Mastered Server-Sent Events for real-time streaming. Learned React Flow node-based systems deeply. Discovered Convex's reactive queries make real-time apps incredibly simple. AI tool integration requires careful prompt engineering and state management.

What's next for Niana

Real-time collaboration, component library, direct code export to React/Vue, design system import, Figma integration, voice input, design templates marketplace, and multi-framework support.
