NexusNGO

Inspiration

The motivation for NexusNGO stemmed from the challenges that both NGOs and donors face in the charitable giving process. NGOs often struggle to reach potential donors, while donors find it difficult to identify trustworthy organizations aligned with their values. NexusNGO aims to simplify and bring transparency to this process, creating a bridge between NGOs in need and willing donors by leveraging technology.

What it does

NexusNGO is a platform where donors can easily connect with NGOs, offering donations of items or funds. The platform provides:

Donor-friendly interface: Simplified search and donation options for donors to contribute to verified NGOs.
NGO management: Easy-to-use tools for NGOs to manage profiles, update information, and engage with donors.
Blockchain transparency: Integration of blockchain to display recent transactions, ensuring that donations are traceable.
Image detection automation: To facilitate item donations, NexusNGO uses image detection to identify and log items based on uploaded photos.

How we built it

The platform is built using:

Streamlit for an interactive and user-friendly frontend.
Firebase for secure user authentication and data management.
Blockchain integration to display donation transactions for transparency.
Image detection technology to analyze item donations, with code and modules organized to streamline both donor and NGO interactions.

Challenges we ran into

Ensuring Data Security: Securing sensitive information for both donors and NGOs required robust authentication via Firebase.
Blockchain Integration: Balancing blockchain’s transparency with accessibility was challenging, as we wanted users to access transaction records without technical barriers.
User Interface Design: Designing an interface intuitive enough for varied users (donors, NGOs) required several iterations to ensure simplicity and usability.

What we learned

We learned a great deal about designing user-centric platforms with an emphasis on security and transparency. Working with blockchain reinforced the importance of accountability in digital platforms, and building a system to cater to diverse users highlighted the need for simplicity in design.
