Inspiration

I'm a big fan of Person of Interest, and Samaritan's red triangle always stood out to me. I started wondering what it would look like if that idea became something genuinely useful on our computers: a small, always-available assistant instead of another app you have to keep opening.

What it does

NEXUS Triangle is a native macOS companion built around a red triangular presence and a separate lightweight window. The goal is to make everyday assistance easier to access without needing the full Nexus interface running. It is designed to grow into a way to find files, open projects, and access more powerful AI capabilities when needed.

How we built it

I built the prototype as a native macOS application using Swift. Instead of making another chatbot, I focused on the companion's visual identity, its standalone experience, and how it could eventually connect to a larger AI system.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was balancing the visual effect with practicality. The triangle needs to feel present without getting in the way of the user's normal cursor or other applications. Another challenge is making sure future actions are actually completed rather than simply claiming they succeeded.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of turning an idea inspired by a fictional intelligence into a real macOS prototype with its own identity. I wanted something recognizable, minimal, and different from the usual AI interface.

What we learned

I learned that a good AI experience is about more than the model itself. The interface, system integration, reliability, and how the user interacts with it are just as important.

What's next for NEXUS

I want to connect the triangle to a shared Nexus intelligence core, add reliable actions like finding files and opening projects, and eventually make it context-aware. The long-term goal is a lightweight companion for everyday tasks, with a more powerful intelligence available whenever the task demands it.
